Issues Forums

Held quarterly, the Issues Forums are to inform members and the community on pertinent community and economic development issues.  Events planned for 2013 include an economic outlook forum in the early spring, The 2013 State of Morrisville, Breakfast with the Chief and the 2013 Candidates Forum.

Review of  the 2012 State of Morrisville held June 14

Morrisville Mayor Jackie Holcombe shared with attendees the critical issues to the Town including road maintenence, road congestion, stormwater and parks.  She highlighted achievements including lower water rates with substantical savings for Morrisville citizens and businesses starting July.  She also shared that current needs are not covered by projected revenues and her concerns about the future of the town.  To view Mayor Holcombe's power point presentation, please click here.

County Manager David Cooke started his presentation that things are better than the last few years but not where they were prior to the recession.  For example, permits are up 20 percent above last year, but 40 percent below 2008.  The proposed FY 2013 budget is about $940 million.  Good news for Morrisville, the County's capital budget includes a bond referendum on the ballot this year for Wake Tech, which will include starting the Morrisville campus.  On the transit front, a voter referendum on one-half cent sales tax for Transit is not likely this fall."  The proposed transit plan includes commuter rail and possibly future light rail for Morrisville.
